About Dr. Hummel Orthopaedic Surgery


When our patients have experienced a musculoskeletal injury or disease that compromises their ability to live their lives to the fullest extent, it is our goal to get them back to health quickly and safely.  Dr. Hummel and his staff are committed to providing excellent care to patients with compassion, understanding and respect.


Dr. Hummel takes great pride in providing a very personalized hand-on approach to patient care.  As a patient you will never find yourself in a situation dealing with numerous other people and never having the opportunity to see your doctor.  You will always have the opportunity to ask questions and be engaged in decisions about your care with Dr. Hummel.  In fact, Dr. Hummel is so hands-on that he prefers to change his patient’s bandages and surgical dressings himself.  He visits his patients post-operatively in the hospital and takes the time to talk with them and their family members.  In Dr. Hummel’s words, “patients come first all of the time.”


Office Hours

Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


Dr. Hummel sees patients Tuesdays and Thursdays (all day) and Friday (afternoon only).




8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.


Our office is closed for lunch 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. each day. You may leave a message with the service for contacts and follow up phone calls to be made during this time frame.

Referrals and Authorizations

Referrals from a primary care physician to see Dr. Hummel are not required unless the patient’s insurance plan requires one.  Check with your insurance plan to find out if you need to have a written referral from your primary care doctor prior to making an appointment to see Dr. Hummel.  Many insurance providers require a physician’s referral and prior authorization before seeing a specialist like Dr. Hummel.

We participate in many insurance plans to make it easier for patients to access the healthcare they need.  Following is a list of plans and networks with which we participate.  This list may change occasionally, so we ask that you reference it from time to time. 


If you do not see your plan listed, please office to confirm whether or not we are participating.

If you do not have insurance, you will be considered “self-pay”, and will be expected to remit payment at the time of service.

Fees and Payments

While all fees are due and payable at the time of service, as a courtesy to patients we bill most health insurance carriers, provided we have sufficient information. Please be sure to bring your insurance card with you at the time of your appointment. Co-pays are the patient's responsibility and must be paid at the time of service.  If you cannot provide us with your current insurance information at the time of service, you will be expected to pay for your visit.  We will provide a receipt, which is your responsibility to maintain as proof of any cash payments made to our office.
